Louisa Foster came to Texas as a child with the “Old 300”, the first settlers brought to Texas by Stephen F. Austin. She wrote 11 journals about her life on the frontier in Texas from 1847 to 1870. Louisa’s youngest son, John Collier Foster, kept a diary from 1882 to 1883 and wrote about life from the perspective of a young man of twenty. He married Etta Field whose father was Julian Field, the co-founder of Mansfield. The journals can be seen at the Mansfield Historical Society and the book, published by TCU Press, is now available at the museum.
