Kow Bell Arena Ornament

The Kow Bell Indoor Rodeo opened April 1959 by William H. (Bill) Hogg, a lifetime resident of Mansfield. It was located on Highway 287, north of the downtown area. Rodeos were each Saturday night year-round. The ornament depicts the Kow Bell Arena as it was built in 1959 with the open roof and a canvas top that could be lowered for shelter in bad weather. Bill died in 1961. Jan Hogg, his widow, married Jack Ratjen. They added a permanent roof and continued to operate the Kow Bell Arena until 2004, when it was torn down for a fourth high school in the Mansfield ISD.
