Nugent Hart House Ornament

On an original Texas Land Grant, Joseph Nugent, from Canada, built the house during the 1880s. Joseph Nugent was elected mayor in 1891. They owned the home until 1907. There were several owners during the next 13 years. One family of interest was Dora and John Galloway from Tennessee. Dora and her 12 children lived here during the school year and returned to their farm in Ellis Co. when school ended. J.H. Hart bought the property in 1920, and the house remained in the family for four generations. The Hart Brothers, Jim and Richard, donated the house to St. Jude Catholic Church. In 2006, the parish remodeled the home for their priest.
