The Man House was built by Mansfield co-founder Ralph S. Man, between 1865 and 1880. It is the oldest known building in town. Members of the family lived here until 1946. The original, one-room, log cabin was expanded by two brick rooms, and a timber frame was added to enlarge the “dog trot” and finish an upstairs room. The original doors, staircase, and mantel were made by R.S. Man. The logs were long leaf pine, and the bricks were made on site. In 1930, the porch was enclosed. The City of Mansfield restored the house to an earlier period. The museum opened in 2020.
