The centerpiece of the Mansfield Independent School District’s Multi-Purpose Sports Complex is Vernon Newsom Stadium. Construction of this facility was completed in the fall of 2006. The first game played in this facility was on September 15, 2006. Participants were Mansfield Summit High School and Flower Mound Marcus. The Mansfield Independent School District held the naming ceremony to dedicate the Vernon Newsom Stadium on November 6, 2009. Vernon Newsom was a long-time Mansfield educator, coach, and superintendent.
