We are excited to be working on several special projects here at the Mansfield Historical Society.  

It is not necessary to become a member in order to purchase these items once they are released.  However, if you wish to preorder any of these items, you must be a member of the Mansfield Historical Society. Information regarding preorders is at the bottom of the page.

The Foster Diaries

Estimated Release Date: December 2024

Louisa Foster came to Texas as a child with the “Old 300”, the first settlers brought to Texas by Stephen F. Austin. She wrote 11 journals about her life on the frontier in Texas from 1847 to 1870. Louisa’s youngest son, John Collier Foster, kept a diary from 1882 to 1883 and wrote about life from the perspective of a young man of twenty. He married Etta Field whose father was Julian Field, the co-founder of Mansfield. The journals can be seen at the Mansfield Historical Society and the book, published by TCU Press will be out this December.

Foster Cookbook

Estimated Release Date: Winter 2025

The Malvina Foster personal cookbook is a Texas Pioneer Cookbook dating from 1860-1867. It gives an in-depth view into the kitchen of early pioneer settlers in Texas. The recipes use ingredients available at the time and has been transcribed exactly as Malvina Foster recorded them.

How to Preorder

To preorder any of these items, you must be a current member of the Mansfield Historical Society.  If you are a current member, please send us a message to reserve your item.  You can also call us at 817-473-4250.  Once the item is for sale, we’ll contact you to finalize payment and arrange for either pickup at the Museum or shipping to your home.  Please note: shipping is an extra charge.
